When we introduced Honest Diamond Grading around ten years ago, the diamond trade was using reports from a range of laboratories. Although these laboratories used the same universal language of diamond quality—the 4Cs of carat weight, colour, clarity and cut—the grading standards they applied could differ.
This meant diamonds carrying the same stated colour and clarity grades were not always directly comparable. A diamond could therefore appear to offer better value simply because it had been awarded stronger grades on paper. Customers could believe they were comparing like for like when, in reality, they were not.
For this reason, we made a commitment to sell GIA graded mined diamonds. We chose GIA because its internationally recognised grading system gives our customers a consistent and dependable basis for understanding a diamond’s quality and comparing it fairly with other GIA graded diamonds.
When we introduced lab-grown diamonds in 2024, we applied the same principle by choosing IGI grading reports. IGI has long-established experience in grading lab-grown diamonds, and its detailed reports use the universally recognised 4Cs: carat weight, colour, clarity and cut, where applicable.
